Christmas All Year Long

ho-hum-270x300So here we are.  It’s December 26th.  For most of us, Christmas is over and all we have left is a sink full of dishes and scraps of wrapping paper on the floor.  I find it very disheartening that too many of us limit the celebration of our Savior’s birth to one day a year.

For a true Christ-follower, the celebration of His life should be an everyday occurrence.  I don’t mean you should leave your Christmas tree up until spring (what would the neighbors think?)  Instead, the joy and anticipation that we feel on Christmas Eve should delight us every day.

The Birth of Jesus fulfilled many prophesies (such as):

The Virgin Birth –

14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.  Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)

The Messiah Born in Bethlehem

Now gather yourself in troops,
O daughter of troops;
He has laid siege against us;
They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,
Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth are from of old,
From everlasting.”
Micah 5:1-2  (NKJV)

The Messiah Will Be From the Tribe of Judah

10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes;
And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
Genesis 49:10 (NKJV)

Nations Will Look to Jesse’s Descendant for Counsel

11 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

His delight is in the fear of the Lord,
And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,
Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;
But with righteousness He shall judge the poor,
And decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,
And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.
Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins,
And faithfulness the belt of His waist.

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.
The cow and the bear shall graze;
Their young ones shall lie down together;
And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole,
and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.

10 “And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse,
Who shall stand as a banner to the people;
For the Gentiles shall seek Him,
And His resting place shall be glorious.”
Isaiah 11:1-10  (NKJV)

The Messiah Will Be a Descendant of David

“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
Jeremiah 23:5  (NKJV)

The work that Christ did during His ministry and His final sacrifice on the cross could not have happened if He had not first entered the world as a tiny baby. So I ask you, is Jesus Christ only worthy of ONE DAY a year or should he be foremost in your heart and mind EVERY DAY of your life.
